Solid Oak Barometer

Description

late !9th Century aneroid barometer, having a solid golden oak case, with scroll top and sides. The engraved silvered dial is signed:

"CW DIXEY & SON 3 New bond St.London"

It has a silvered and engraved thermometer scale, a brass bezel and a bevel edge glass.

The following are details about the makers:

The main business was originally started by Charles Wastell. He was in partnership with his twin brother George, who died in 1838, the partnership suceeded their father Edward. The original business was established in 1777, originally "Optician & mathematical instrument Maker to Her Majesty the King and Queen of Hanover, and other members of the Royal family. The business later became C.W.Dixey 1863-1900 and was a partnership betewween Charles and his son Adolphus
