A Liverpool landscape painter of some quality. He mainly painted landscapes and coastal scenes around Liverpool and north Wales, later moving to London where he achieved some success with over 45 exhibits at various galleries. He eventually died in poverty. Brook-Hart said of him, ''had he remained in his native Liverpool, he might have achieved the success he was seeking''.
His Suffolk Street exhibits included ''Eastham Shore on the Mersey'', 1854, ''Quai Jordins, Antwerp'', 1859, ''Morning Mist, Mounts Bay'', 1874, and ''Tol-pedn, Land''s End, Cornwall'', 1877.
