Edgar Bundy was an appointed official War Artist, he painted many of the top allied Generals. This portrait is of Lt Gen Sir F.O.W Loomis who was commander of the Canadian expeditionary forces in France. The portrait is extensively inscribed "Lt General Sir F.O.W Loomis, G.o.c, BMMS, 1918."

Major General Sir Frederick Osborne Warren Loomis, K.C.B., C.M.G, D.S.O. - Manufacturer and Contractor, D.G.Loomis & Sons 1112 St Patrick Street , Montreal, Quebec, Born Sheerbrooke, Educated Public School of Sherbrooke, started businesss 1891. Joined 3rd Battalion of sherbrooke as private in 1886, made lt 1897, commissioned 1898 transferred to regt of Royal Highlanders of Canada 1903, promoted to major 1900. At outbreak of war he enlisted for service at the front. Given command of the 18th Candian infantry battallion with rank of Lt Colonel. Landed in France 1915, promoted to colonel in 1916 and given command of training brigade in England, promoted to Brig Gen march 1916. Recalled to France July 1916. In command at Ypres Sallient Somme, Virny Ridge, Arlieux Hill 70 and Passchendale during 1916 and 1917 and the Battle of Amiens and Arras in 1918. Promoted to Maj Gen and given command of Candian 3rd Infantry division in 1918, captured Mons. Returned to Canada 1919 , May
