Born in Ayrshire, David Comba Adamson studied in Glasgow and Edinburgh. He visited Antwerp and Paris, where he studied under B. Constant, and Carolus-Duran. He began his career at Cambuslang near Glasgow. He moved to Paris between 1890 and 1908, where he exhibited at The Paris Salon. He later settled in Dundee, exhibiting at the Dundee Fine Art Exhibition.
He exhibited at The Glasgow Institute, Walker Gallery, Liverpool, Manchester, Royal Academy, R.O.I., and The Royal Scottish Academy.
