A beautiful oil on canvas depicting a young man in white shirt, with blond hair, looking up into the light. The painting is a lovely study of the subject and has a strange combination of peace and drama about it. The work is highly competent typically Victorian romantic realism painting. The work is mounted in a very good quality deep Victorian gilt frame. The painting has been professionally cleaned and has had some slight repair. It is unsigned. C.1860.
