A fine portrait ATTRIBUTED TO SOLOMON ALEXANDER HART (1808-1881) OF LOUISA ANNE MILES (nee GRYLLS) (1817-1907),Bust length, wearing a cream dress with a floral shawl, oil on canvas, mounted oval. size 27 x 32.5 inches approx. overall image 23. x 17.5 inches approx. at widest points. The overall condition of the painting is very good it is lined there is some cracquelure and some retouching mainly by mouth. The painting is housed in the original frame( hence have not reframed) which is quite fragile with some damage and losses of beading etc could come loose in transit.
WIFE Of William Miles, of Dixfield House in Exeter, he was a magistrate with a professional interest in horse welfare.
His widow presented the Queen Street clock tower to the city of Exeter in memory of her husband . There is a painted photo of him for sale in my shop (see antique wall)Would be nice to keep two together!
Solomon Alexander Hart (April 1806 – 11 June 1881) was a British painter and engr...aver. He was the first Jewish member of the Royal Academy in London
and was probably the most important Jewish artist working in England
in the 19th century.
