Attributed to John Hoppner R.A. Here is a fine head and shoulder portrait of John Browne of Salperton Park Gloucestershire.Depicted in a velvet collared jacket
before a red curtain, presented in what is surely the original gilt frame. This oil on canvas bears a label verso with details of the sitter and his marriage.
Provenance: By descent in the family of the sitter until purchased by the present owner.
The overall condition is excellent having been cleaned and re varnished ,there has been some restoration i.e. delicate re-touching
across the face, mostly contained around the left hand side eye area and some In filling to old cracquelure. The frame is in good condition although might benefit from a light clean.
The size of the painting is 73cm by 60cm and overall is 82cm x 95cm (28.5 x 23.5 inches and in total 32.5 x 37.5 inches approx.)
