A charming twilight scene oil on canvas by highly regarded Scottish artist John Lochhead RBA. The scene shows a group of people chatting over the days news in a village street as the sun goes down. The work is typical of Lochhead''s work with use of thick impasto paint in an impressionist manner, while still being very detailed. The painting is in excellent condition and has been cleaned. The frame is the original and has been regilt at some point. John Lochhead was a hugely successful Scottish artist who died in 1921, he exhibited extensively including the Glasgow Insitute of fine arts 75 times, 77 times at the Royal Scottish Academy and 56 times at the Royal Society of British Artists. C.1900.
