Biography:
Sir Francis Grant was a Scottish Portrait Painter, who was born in Perthshire. He was educated at Harrow School, and had a passion for foxhunting. He initially intended to become a lawyer, but he left his studies to become a painter. He was mainly self taught, but did spend time in Alexander Nasmyth's studio. He acquired a reputation as a fine sporting painter and exhibited his first painting at The Royal Academy in 1834, and was commissioned to paint for many prominent persons of the day. In 1866 he was appointed The Royal Academy President and soon after was Knighted.
Between 1834 and 1879 he contributed 253 paintings.
A very fine artist indeed.
