Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1750s.
Full of amusing and keenly observed characters, which include the young couple; the experienced mounted officers; the child helping her mother to spin; the father smoking a clay pipe, these delightful compositions are painted on canvas and are in good condition, having been re-lined at some stage in the past twenty years or so.
Unsigned but in the manner of Francis Wheatley RA, (British 1747-1801) 15.25ins x 13.5ins including the frames (39 x 34cms)
