It is most likely that this aircraft had been leased to the military for transporting troops, but now was being converted back to private use by the owners AIRWORK (founded in 1928) in a Bellman hangar at Blackbushe, Hampshire.
Apart from the major overhaul, it was also repainted from military to AIRWAY colours.
It is thought that this aircraft was involved in a collision with a Dacota at Calcutta in 1957.
Deborah Jones (1921-2012).
She is best known now for her paintings of teddy bears and shop windows, but in her early career she painted buildings and streets and was very interested in military subjects having been employed as a lathe operator in World War 11.
She has exhibited around the world.
