A unusual Scottish oil on board showing a view of Hoy Hills. The work is by Alex Sutherland and bears a label to revers indicating that the work was exhibited, he appears to have lived on Orkney but I am unable to identify him. The paintings bears a label indicating that it was retailed by the fine art emporium of Vancouver, Canada and august institution that specializes in Canadian artists, further deepening the mystery. The work has a brutal simplicity to it, very indicative of place and time, and is accomplished work. The painting is mounted in the original painted frame, signed and dated 1951, and the whole is in excellent condition.
