Farmyard Oil By Frederick Davenport Bates

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A charming, impressionistic oil of a farmer releasing the geese on a bright morning. The work is fresh and loose, reflecting the artist having trained in France, although he came from and was based in Stockport. The painting is in superb condition and in the original frame which has been gilded later. Bates (1867-1943) traveled widely on the continent and the middle east, but is most well known in his native Stockport and Manchester, he exhibited many, many times at Manchester City Art Gallery.
