A really charming pair of naive oils on tin, depicting king Charles Spaniels. The works have a huge naive appeal and are mounted in the original oak frames with gilt slip. The paintings typically for naive art of the nineteenth century are not signed. The paintings and in particular the brown spaniel have suffered from areas of paint loss over the years due to the fragile nature of works on tin, and have been touched in several times, this is visible in the photos. The condition is good and the restoration competent. The pair have a wonderful charm and warmth to them and the frames complement this superbly. C.1850.
