Mansion House Antiques & Fine Art has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The painting depicts a group of three cows resting in the shade of a gnarled tree in a large meadow.

There are two more cows grazing over by the trees to the left.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
William Vivian Tippet, 1833-1910, was born in Bristol in 1833, the son of an accountant.
He was practicing as an artist by 1861 and living with his parents at 5 Ashley Road Bristol.
By 1891 he was again living in Bristol at 19 Downend Road. He died in Bristol in 1910 aged 77.

To quote from Jeremy Wood's excellent book 'Hidden Talents'
'Landscape painter in oil and sometimes watercolour, who lived in Bristol. He was a prolific exhibitor at the Royal West of England Academy, showing 132 works at the Annual Exhibitions 1856-1892, and a further 63 works at the Winter Exhibitions. Most of the subjects were rural landscapes featuring cattle, sheep and horses and also some views of South Wales. He exhibited several river landscapes and the titles included 'On the Avon' (1870) and 'On the Frome at Yate (1886). The Bristol City Art Gallery owned a view of 'Winterbourne Church' (1898) and his work was featured in the 'Ten Bristol Artists' Exhbition at the Gallery in 1934.'

FRAME
The painting is framed in a very nice 2 3/4" swept gilt frame with linen slip and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

CONDITION
Very good condition. The canvas has been relined at some stage and the painting is now in very good order. There is some minor craquelure and slight stretcher marks consistent with age.
