Artist: Henry Sykes R.B.A. (1855-1921)

Title: 'The Cockerel'

Medium: Oil on canvas.

Size: 16" x 12" unframed (in inches)

21.5" x 17.5" framed (in inches).

Inscribed verso.

Provenance: Collection of the late Dr Bill Greenwood, who bought it from Sykes' daughter in Huddersfield.

In very good 'ready to hang' condition!

An unusual depiction of a cockerel 'showing off' painted in good strong colours.

Henry Sykes R.B.A. (1855, Huddersfield-1921, London).

Henry Sykes was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire in 1855. Studied at the Slade School of art. Appointed R.B.A in 1890. Travelled widely and lived in Glasgow, Derby, London and Dublin. Exhibited at the Glasgow Institute, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Manchester City art Gallery, Nottingham Art Gallery, Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Institute and Royal Scottish Academy. Died in London in 1921.
