Watercolour by Mary S Hagarty the Meadow Stream

A fine watercolour landscape entitled; 'The Meadow Stream' the work shows a view across some meadow pastures, with a stream or river in the foreground leading back to a small hamlet and cows watering. The work has a beautiful feel of summer about it with blues skys and you can almost feel the haze of a hot summers afternoon. The work is mounted in a cream slip which is titled and has the artists name also, this is a new replacement for the original which must have been lost for some time, the gilt moulded frame is however the original.

The artists Miss Mary. S. Hagarty is a well recorded artist and also the sister of a similar artist of note; Parker Hagarty. Mary was a confimed watercolourist and most of here work is landscape, she exhibited from 1882-1938 including often at the Royal Academy where views included the Wye and Severn Valleys and the Easte Anglian Coast. Her exhibitor addresses have her living in Liverpool in 1882 but by 1896 she was in London. She was elected an associate of the Society of Woman Artist in 1915 and made a full member in 1916. There is no real record of Mary's life I am afraid, but there is a full list of her exhibited works below:
