A large oil on canvas scene of the Victorian Plein Air school of painting, meaning the canvas was worked on quickly outside in front of the subject, rather than inside a studio. The work shows a dairywoman returning the cows to pasture after milking in the morning. The painting is a fine example of Victorian Landscape painting with the emphasis on the landscape and the sky and the majesty of nature. The work is signed H.P.Jones but the common nature of the surname has made it difficult to place the artist, but he would have been an exhibiting artist,as can be told purely form the quality of the work and the materials and the framing. The work is in good condition having one small repair, and is mounted in the original good quality gilt swept frame. The frame is lovely quality and has a lot of depth and mouldings, some of which have been carefully restored.
