Fine watercolour by Thomas Robert Macquoid RI. The watercolour shows a gentleman in Georgian dress taking a walk through the gardens at Haddon Hall in the summer sunshine. The work is of a high technical ability and the composition is very pleasing. The condition of the watercolour is excellent and the colours bright and fresh. The painting is mounted in the original gilt frame which is of superb quality and in good condition, with all the original gilding, and retains the artist''s name inscribed on the slip. The painting and frame are both in untouched condition and the frame retains the artist labels and information to reverse. C.1880
Thomas Robert Macquoid was a highly regarded architectural, watercolourist and illustrator, he exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1838-94 and was elected to the Royal Institute of Watercolourists in 1882. Macquoid painted extensively in England, France and Spain, he also worked as an illustrator for ''The Graphic'' and ''The Illustrated London N...ews''. A memorial exhibition was held for the artist at the new Dudley Gallery in 1912.
