A fine and interesting oil on canvas by Northamptonshire artist George Herbert Buckingham Holland 1901-1987. The work shows the busy factory of Nunn Mills in Northampton with the barges by the canal and the countryside landscape in the background, the work is loose, thickly painted with broad brushstrokes and very impressionistic. The work is mounted in the original painted frame with the gallery label on the reverse.George Herbert Buckingham Holland is a well known and regarded painter working mainly in the middle years of the twentieth century. He was born in Northampton and trained in Leicester and worked in the midlands, although he did spend some time in London. He was most widely known as a portrait painter and three of his works are in the National Portrait Gallery.
