The work is signed Darking and dated 1949.Fred Darking was a well known artist in Nottingham, where he trained under Arthur Spooner. Darking''s technique was to build up layers of colour and his work is bright and complex. Darking lived in Nottingham most of his life and exhibited widely there, although he did paint during the war and his work is kept at the Imperial War Museum.
