A Fine Detailed Oil Painting on Canvas

Description

C. STANFIELD: a very impressive and beautifully painted MARINE OIL ON CANVAS, which depicts a visit by the royal yacht "Britannia" to St. Michael's Mount in Cornwall.

Clearly this was an event of great celebration! Britannia flies the Royal Standard, as indeed does the priory on the mount, and various boats can be seen in the foreground and background, with everyone dressed in their "Sunday Best"!

Signed to the right-hand corner. 17.5ins wide; 11ins high, excluding the ornate frame. (44.5 x 28cms).

*In 1846 Queen Victoria made a visit on her yacht to St. Michael's Mount, actually sailing into the harbour and anchoring. There is a brass plaque on the harbour to show where the Queen stepped ashore, which can be seen to this day.
