Description

DOLLAND, LONDON: a fine quality early 19th century mahogany STICK BAROMETER by this famous and highly-regard barometer and scientific instrument maker.

The finely engraved and silvered register plate is fully signed, and retains its original mercury bulb thermometer, whilst the case is veneered in finest quality "flame" mahogany. Original solid mahogany cistern cover. Full working order.

**Peter Dolland was born in 1730 initially working in the family silk weaving business. At the age of 20 he set up as an optician later becoming the most eminent optical and instrument maker of the late 18th century. See Goodison, pages 142/143. c.1800
