Description

M. L. GOW: a good PAIR of late 19th/early 20th century WATERCOLOURS of Classical 'Roman' ladies. One sits on stone steps looking out across the sea with roses in her hand, a "Phoenician" boat in the distance; the other beside a pool, also seated, admiring herself in a hand mirror. Beautifully painted and both are signed lower right.

** Mary GOW (later Mrs Hall) born in in 1851, painted genre subjects, exhibiting 18 works at Suffolk Street and 6 at the Royal Academy. She married the painter Sydney Prior Hall and died in 1929. See Christopher Wood page 184. Priced for the pair.
