An early 19th C oil on canvass, typical rural pastoral scene with a woman greeting an man on horse at the door of the cottage and children playing in the stream. The picture is nicely painted and composed the light well used to draw the eye through the picture to the doorway.
Image size 12x16 inches Frame size 24 x 19.75 inches
Over all good condition given both the age and medium, there is a very old repair where the child is, it does not affect the image. For accuracy the paint has had a good deal of bitumen and so some unevenness to the surface in the darker area. Again it does not detract from the image.
