This is a great example of a superb quality and rare Mid Wales George III oak pot board dresser base and rack displaying a fantastic rich colour, circa 1780, originating from Mid Wales. The style and colour of this oak dresser was indicative to this area due to its more moderate terrain, rich in mineral content. The dresser features a closed rack with wide vertical boards and three shelves each with plate beads (to stop plates sliding forward). Surrounding the rack are 20 brass cup hooks. The top of the rack is styled with an elegant protruding cornice. Below, the base, constructed with a pegged construction method, features a two-plank top and five working pine lined hand dovetailed drawers. Each drawer features elegant brass fretwork handles. The centre of the base features a lovely doomed cock beaded frieze. The base stands on four ring turned legs to the front, which connects to a two-plank reeded pot board base. The pot board base also features a plate bead. This dresser boasts a superb rich golden oak colour, which has been created from 200 years of care and cleaning. It is a sought after size, which makes it an excellent practical furnishing, piece and it is a stunning example of a dresser from this provenance.
