Still Life Oil by Peter Stebbing

A large and dramatic oil on canvas still life by the artist and interior decorator Peter Stebbing. The work shows in trope l'oeil, a large stone vase on a stone shelf wreathed by a garland of flowers. The range of flowers in the garland is huge and the colours stunning. The work is mounted in what appears to be the original stripped pine frame. The work had two tears which have been professionally restored and the whole is now in excellent condition. C.1950

Peter Stebbing studied at Ruskin College of Art, Oxford, and worked as a muralist and interior designer in London during the 1940s to late 1960s. His client list included many society names of the time as well as important commissions for the interiors of various London hotels such as the Mayfair and Waldorf.
