John William Howey "The Kite, Sandsend"

Description

John William Howey was born in Hartlepool, Cleveland in 1873. He attended the local School of Art and was taught by the landscape artist, Edwin Denyer. He became one of the Staithes Group of artists and went on painting trips around the Yorkshire coast with Mark Senior, Florence Hess and Rowland Henry Hill.

He exhibited pictures throughout the country but especially around the North East, Yorkshire and at some London exhibitions.

This lovely freely painted oil on panel measures 10"x 12". It is in good original condition, is signed J.W.Howey lower right and is contained in a good later hand made frame giving an overall size of 15"x 17".
