William Greaves "The Young Fisherman" Oil Painting

Description

William Greaves was born in Leeds, Yorkshire in 1852. He studied at Sheffield College of Art and went on to paint, mostly in oil, landscapes around Yorkshire and Northern England and around the Sherwood Forest area.

He exhibited between 1882 and 1920 at galleries including the Royal Academy, Liverpool, Birmingham and the Royal Cambrian Academy.

"THE YOUNG FISHERMAN" is a charming oil painting on canvas measuring 12" x 18" showing a seated boy fishing from a small bridge over the beck. Towards the centre of the painting is a lady walking along a path, with a village in the background. It is signed lower left and dated (18)89 and is framed in a good quality old gilt frame.
