McTague of Harrogate has dated this piece to the 1930s.
He joined the Royal Navy and trained on the Isle of Wight.
He retired in 1922 to paint. He returned to his studies at the Royal Academy School and the Royal College of Art. He enjoyed some popularity and staged exhibitions in London, New York and Paris.
Langmaid was the official war artist to the Commander-in-Chief Mediterranean Fleet from 1941 to 1943. He died near Malaga on the south coast of Spain in 1956.
"YACHT RACING OFF COWES" is a good example of the artist's work. It is signed in pencil lower right by the artist and is inscribed lower left with the title. Condition is very good with only very minor soiling which will not be obvious when framed.
It measures 6"x 8" and is unframed but mounted in a conservation bevelled mount giving an overall size of 14"x 13".
