Here is a great example of a superb quality George III oak dresser displaying a deep rich colour, circa 1790 – 1820, originating from Anglesey, North Wales. The dresser boasts great craftsmanship and although predominantly oak, it boasts red walnut drawer fronts and satinwood inlaid escutcheons. The dresser rack consists of very good quality wide (a sign of quality) pine backboards with three racks that can support plates. Above there is a lovely moulded protruding cornice. Large strong shoes that screw into the top of the base support the rack. Below, the breakfront dresser base features a solid two plank oak top with a central column of working drawers flanked by a cupboard each side. To each side of the centre of the dresser are turned quarter columns. The base consists of six working drawers with old brass swan neck handles and back plates and two cupboards with brass knobs. It is rare to see a dresser of this style with all working drawers in the base. Usually, the central drawers are false drawers in dressers of this style. The top central drawer and top left hand drawer feature working locks and keys. The dresser stands on the original shaped bracket feet. The backboards, sides and drawer linings are constructed of pine which is typical for a dresser of this provenance.

Condition Report:

The dresser is in excellent condition considering its age. The base and rack are original to each other and is not a marriage. Nominal old use cup marks to the top of the dresser and old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. All drawers and doors are in good working condition. There is a working lock and key to the top central and top left drawer only (all other locks are faux locks). Free of woodworm. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
