Victorian Oil Of Hathersage, Derbyshire

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A charming naive oil on wooden panel, depicting the village of Hathersage in Derbyshire. The village of Hathersage is famous for being the inspiration for many of the locations in Jane Eyre. The work shows a scene looking over to the village with travelers on the road at the fore. The work is not signed and is typical of the English naive school of the Victorian period. The original title label remains on the reverse. The work is mounted in the original gilt frame which has at some point been over gilded, but otherwise is in excellent condition. The painting is in untouched condition. C.1880.
