A member of the Moret School of Painting at Moret sur Loing. Martin became a specialist in the open air or 'plain air' painting and the use of pure colour. Among the fine landscape painters, Maurice Martin is one of the most renowed in the world. He was a member of the board and commission of examiners at the Salon des Artistes and also Vice Predident of the Soceity of French Landscape Painters. His many landscape studies onclude Picardy, The Isle Of France, Brittany and Provence. He also painted in Spain, especially Grenada and Malaga. The Foundation Taylor, to which he belonged, has created a price 'Maurice Martin' which is awarded every year during the 'Salon de Moret'. He is known as one of the four muskateers of Impressionism at the School of Moret sur Loing, next to Monet, Renoir and Pisarro.
