John Sowden "Rievaulx Abbey" Watercolour

Description

John Sowden (1838-1926) was a painter of landscapes and portraits in watercolour. He first trained as an architect then taught art in Bradford, Yorkshire. He later became head of Art at Bradford Mechanics' Institute and exhibited quality pictures throughout the country.

"RIEVAULX ABBEY, SPRING 1906" is a lovely painting of Rievaulx in Yorkshire. It is a watercolour measuring 5"x 9" and has the original inscription, artist's name and date on the reverse.

It is newly mounted with conservation board and is framed in a suitable plain gold frame.
