"The Craven Heifer" Antique Naive Livestock Engraving 1812

Description

"THE CRAVEN HEIFER" is a charming old stipple engraving by Whessell,(Oxford), after a painting by Fryer.

The engraving measures 18"x 24" and was published in January 1812.

Below the image is the following inscription:

"To the Most Noble WILLIAM SPENCER DUKE OF DEVONSHIRE, this engraving of the Craven Heifer, bred & fed by the Revd. William Carr of Bolton Abbey near Skipton in Craven Yorkshire...."

There is also a dedication to John Watkinson and details, weights and dimensions of "This Wonderful Animal". It is contained in a period maple frame giving an overall size of 25"x 29".
