Description

W.J.Gilbert was a provincial and travelling painter from Halesworth, Sussex. He exhibited at the Portland Gallery and is recorded as having painted studies of horses, dogs, cattle and other animals in the mid 19th century.

This charming oil painting of a Shorthorn is on canvas and is in unrestored original condition. It is nicely signed and dated on the feeding trough lower left "W.J.Gilbert 1860". The painting measures 20"x 25" and is presented in a suitable 19th century rosewood frame giving an overall size of 28"x 33".
