A superb oil on canvas, early Victorian, depicting a scene of an elderly cherry seller, with his scales and donkey at a cottage door. The painting is of the highest technical competency, and captures the moment brilliantly. The work is in excellent condition, with a small repair to the canvas on the very lower left. The painting is mounted in a Victorian period gilt frame. The painting is unsigned but can be attributed to William Collins RA (1788-1847) as it bears a relation to a different work by him also called the cherry seller, it would seem that he might have worked several versions of the subject. C.1840
