Artist: Muriel Metcalfe (1910-1994)

Title: 'A young girl resting by the river Ure, Wensleydale'

Size: 13.5'' x 18'' (picture size in inches)

Overall size: 23.5'' x 26.75''

Signed.

This a charming landscape view of a girl by the river in summer. Muriel had developed her own style (very quick and loose) by this time, after having been taught and influenced by her future husband Fred Lawson for over a decade.

Mounted, framed and ready to hang.

Muriel Metcalfe (1910-1994)

Muriel was a painter of portraits and figure studies, especially of children, and landscapes, mainly in watercolour, pastel and pen and wash. Born at Leyburn, in Wensleydale. Studied art at The School of Art in Newcastle Upon Tyne (Armstrong College). Married the painter Fred Lawson. Exhibited at the R.A., R.I., and many exhibitions in Yorkshire. Among the public collection of her work are Wakefield and Leeds. She lived at Castle Bolton, near Redmire.
