A fine quality portrait of a distinguished gentleman by society portraitist Phillip Tennyson Cole. The work shows a head and shoulders of an upper class gentleman, smartly dressed with finely trimmed mustache, he is likely to have been someone of note as other sitters by the artist included: Edward VII, George V and Cecil Rhodes. The work is signed to the top right and mounted in the original gilt frame, all in excellent condition. C.1890. Philip Tennyson Cole, lived in London and was a sort after and commercial successful society portraitist, he exhibited between C.1880-1930. He had 8 paintings hang at the Royal Academy exhibitions and 13 at the Royal Society for British Artists.
