'A Tidal River' Watercolour by Hubert Coop Rba

A superb watercolour by highly regarded artist Hubert Coop RBA 1872-1953. The scene depicts and is titled 'A tidal river' with a view from the bank across the low tide river with a group of people on a boat and a superb bridge to the fore. The technique of the painting is wonderful with the most subtle clouds painted in the sky and everything given an early morning haze. The work is in excellent condition, the colours are bright and clear. The whole is also mounted in the original superb quality gilt frame with all the original gilt mounts. The work is signed to the lower right but not dated, but will date to c.1900

Hubert Coop was born at Olney, Buckinghamshire, the son of the Rev. Thomas Coop and was educated in Birmingham and Wolverhampton. He started work as a draughtsman at a railway carriage works near Birmingham. He took up art and painting in both oil and watercolour specialising in landscape and coastal views including some scenes on the River Thames. He was elected a Member of the Royal Society of British Artists at the early age of 25; also exhibiting at the Royal Academy from 1897 onwards, as well as at many of the leading London and Provincial Galleries. He exhibited from 1897-1947 including: 39 Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, 24 Royal Society of British Artists, 20 Royal Society of Artists Birmingham, 19 Royal Academy, 8 Royal Cambrian Academy, 4 Fine Art Society and 3 Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour.
