A charming and slightly naive oil on canvas painting of a cart horse in stable setting. The subject matter is quite unusual as it was not often the cart horses that were painted. The painting has a huge amount of detail in the horse and also in the interior all of which is well painted in a naive rural manner. The work is mounted in the original plain gilt molded frame. The whole is in excellent untouched condition, with a slight craquelure to the paint and some distress to the frame. C.1880.
