Oil Painting Of A Pirate By Edgar Bundy

A charming oil on artists board of a Pirate by genre painter Edgar Bundy ARA RI RBA 1862-1922. The oil depicts a Pirate heaving on a line aboard ship with the background painted as a whirl of colour. Edgar Bundy was a London historical and genre painter and watercolourist. As a boy he spent much time in the studio of Alfred Stevens although other than this he was self-taught. He exhibited widely and at the Royal Academy from 1881 where over his career he exhibited 62 times, he also exhibited at the Paris salon from 1907. Bundy was famous for painting ''The landing of the Canadians in France 1915'' for the Canadian war memorial. Bundy became associate of the Royal Academy in 1917, member of the Royal Academy of British artists in 1891, member of the Royal Society of watercolourists in 1891 and member of the Royal Society of oil painters in 1892.
 
The painting is in good condition, signed and mounted in the original gilt frame. C.1890.
