Large Impressionistic Still Life of Flowers

A fine oil on panel painting of clematis in a vase C.1900. The painting is painted in an impressionistic manner with emphasis put on light, colour and reflection. I particularly like the dramatic use of purple in both the flowers and the vase and this contrasts well with the pale background. The work is mounted in an exceptionally good quality Victorian gilt frame, it was not unusual for artists to reuse earlier frames, and this frame would be valuable on it's own. The work is unfortunately not signed, but the quality of the work would indicate an artist of some talent, it might perhaps be an art school work. The whole is a large and dramatic artwork and would make a interesting decorative statement and is in excellent condition.
