A fine quality oil on canvas portrait of a Yeoman farmer. The Farmer typical of the Victorian period can be seen in three quarter stance, leaning on his stick and dressed in work clothes. The figure is standing in a well painted landscape of trees with a stile to his right. The work is a charming portrait of a country figure from the mid Victorian period. The painting is mounted in the original gilt and swept frame. The whole is in untouched country house condition, and has not been touched since leaving the house it came from. The work technically is of a good level, but is not signed, which was often the case with artists who traveled the countryside painting livestock, and portraits for whoever would pay.
