A fine quality, fun and charming portrait of a smart young man, reminiscent of Tom Brown''s school days. The painting is worked in oils on canvas and is highly realistic, the boy is shown wearing his smartest clothes. The work is signed and dated G.F.Harris 1900. The work is mounted in the original frame which is large and bold and decorative, with the original gilding.
George Frederick Harris was a Welsh portrait and landscape painter of note having exhibited at the Royal Academy. He later emigrated to Australia where his grandson is one Rolf Harris!
The whole is full of charm and decorative appeal, the frame is in excellent condition and the painting has been cleaned and a small tear repaired.
