Arthur Blackburn "Pollards Wood, Chapeltown" Oil Painting

Description

Arthur Blackburn was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire in 1853. He studied at Leeds College of Art before working full time as a painter in oils and watercolours. He exhibited twice at the Royal Academy in 1890 and 1891 and was noted for his work with Atkinson Grimshaw.

"POLLARD'S WOOD, CHAPELTOWN"" is a good example of the artist's work. It is an oil on canvas measuring 8"x 10". It is in fine original unrestored condition, is signed lower right by the artist, is inscribed with the title on the reverse of the painting, and is contained in a good English hand-made gilt frame.

This is a very good example of an English landscape painting by a highly regarded Yorkshire painter.
