William Greaves "Sherwood Forest" Oil on Canvas

Description

William Greaves was born in Leeds, Yorkshire in 1852. He studied at Sheffield College of Art and went on to paint, mostly in oil, landscapes around Yorkshire and Northern England and around the Sherwood Forest area.

He exhibited between 1882 and 1920 at galleries including the Royal Academy, Liverpool, Birmingham and the Royal Cambrian Academy.

"OCTOBER, SHERWOOD FOREST near EDWINSTOWE" is a good example of Greaves's work.

It is an oil on canvas measuring 20"x 30" and is signed lower right. It is inscribed on the reverse in the artist's hand with title as above and also:

"William Greaves, 18, Park Lane Leeds".

This is a very good English Landscape Painting in it's fine original gilt frame.
