Fred Stead "Wharfedale, a Summer Afternoon" Oil on Canvas

1900 - 1920
Description

Fred Stead was born in Shipley, Yorkshire in 1863. He studied at Shipley School of art where he later taught. He also taught life drawing at Bradford School of Art and was Inspector in Art for the West Riding County Council.

He was noted for quality impressionist landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales and exhibited his work widely in Yorkshire and throughout the country. His work was shown at the Royal Academy, Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham.

"Wharfedale, A Summer Afternoon" is a lovely quality oil on canvas measuring 14"x 16". It is signed lower left and is in excellent original unrestored condition.

This is a very attractive picture of Wharfedale in Yorkshire.
