Coastal Watercolour by George Lothian Hall

Fine and detailed Coastal landscape by George Lothian Hall, (1825-1888), showing a broad beach with a rocky coast and a large monolith to the foreground, with two figures and a small boat on the shore. The work is very detailed, in particular the geological aspects. The work is newly framed with a sage coloured slip and a frame that imitates driftwood. The work is signed and dated to lower right 1860.

George Lothian Hall was born in England in 1825 and he died in Wales in 1888. He was mainly a watercolour painter, though there are a few of his drawings still in existence, his prefered subjects seem to have been landscapes. He was active in London between 1856 and 1878 and two of his watercolours are in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
