Naive Oil on Canvas Cattle Painting

An endearing work of naive art, showing a family of cattle in rural landscape. The picture is worked in oils on canvas, and is done in the typical manner of naive work of the late nineteenth century. The work shows a group of cattle, the bull standing the heffer and calf sitting, all stare from the picture as if suprised by the artist and giving rise to the title painted on the frame: 'Startled'. The landscape is also worked in great detail with particularly fine trees and a the famrhouse and buildings in the background. The picture is in the original silverd frame which is of superb quality indicating how highly prized it must have been when painted. The whole is in good condition the frame is in slightly worn condition but appropriate for age and the country house look, the oil has been cleaned and does have a patch over a small tear which has been professionally restored. The whole is extremely charming and a superb piece of naive work of the period. C.1900
